How to Write X Posts and Replies with Grok That Sound Like You

Tell Grok the point you want to make, who you’re talking to and paste two or three of your own past posts as a voice example. Ask for a few short options, and because Grok can read X, ask it what’s already being said on the topic first. Edit the draft, check every fact, then post it yourself.

The short version

Grok’s advantage for X posts is that it can see the conversation you’re joining. Most assistants write in a vacuum. Grok can search X first, so you can ask what’s already been said, then write something that adds to it rather than repeating it.

Step by step

1. Say your point in one sentence

“Small shops should post their prices online.” If you can’t say it in a sentence, Grok can’t either.

2. Give it your voice

Paste two or three of your own posts that sound like you. Say what to keep: short sentences, no hashtags, one emoji at most, whatever is true for you.

3. Check the conversation first

xAI says Grok can search X with keyword and semantic search. Ask what people are already saying, so your post adds something new.

4. Ask for options, not one draft

Three short versions with different openings. Pick one and edit it.

5. Format for X

X doesn’t support Markdown. If you want a bold headline or bullet points, paste your draft into our free X post formatter, which converts them into characters that display on X.

6. Edit and check

Change a few words so it sounds like you, check names, numbers and links, then post it yourself.

Prompts to copy

Original post in your voice:

text
Here are 3 of my past posts so you can match my voice:
[paste posts]
Write 3 options for a new post making this point: [your point].
Audience: [who]. Short, no hashtags, no emojis.

Join a conversation:

Search X for what people are saying about [topic] this week. Summarize the main views in 3 bullets.
Then suggest 2 posts I could write that add something the others haven't said.

Reply to a post:

text
Here's a post I want to reply to: [paste link or text]
Write 3 short reply options: one agreeing with a new point, one asking a good question,
one politely disagreeing. Friendly, under 200 characters each.

Turn a blog post into a thread:

Turn this article into a thread of 5 short posts. The first post should work on its own.
End with a link placeholder [LINK]. [paste article]

Example

You: own a bike repair shop and want to post about spring tune-ups.

You ask: “What are cyclists in [city] posting about this week?” Grok finds complaints about potholes on a popular route. Then: “Write a short post for my bike shop: spring tune-up reminder, mention checking tires after the pothole season, friendly, no hashtags.”

A good result: a two-line post that sounds local and useful, not like an ad. You add your booking link and post it.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Posting the first draft. AI drafts often sound generic. Change a few words.
  • Copying other people’s posts. Use what you found as context, not as text to reuse.
  • Arguing by AI. Heated replies written by an assistant rarely help. Write those yourself or not at all.
  • Trusting numbers in the draft. Grok may fill gaps with plausible figures. Check them.

When not to use it

Apologies, condolences and anything personal land better in your own words. Use Grok for ideas, then write it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Can Grok post to X for me?

In a normal Grok chat, you copy the draft and post it yourself. That's also your chance to check it.

How do I add bold text and bullets to an X post?

X posts don't support Markdown, so **bold** shows up as stars. Paste your draft into our free X post formatter, which converts headlines and lists into characters that display on X.
