How to Choose a Grok Plan: Free, Plus, Premium, Super or Ultra

Start on Free and upgrade only when you hit limits. As of October 29, 2026, xAI lists Plus at $8 a month, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200. Each step mostly buys more usage from one weekly pool shared by Grok, the Grok tab on X and Cursor, plus X benefits. Existing SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue unless you switch.

The short version

Most people should start free and upgrade only when they keep hitting the limit. Paid tiers mainly buy more usage, plus X benefits and, from Premium up, Grok Bot. Prices below are xAI’s list prices on October 29, 2026, before tax; check x.ai/pricing before you buy.

The plans at a glance

Plan Monthly Yearly Usage Also includes
Free $0 $0 Limited Daily access to Grok, standard X
Plus $8 $80 Base X checkmark, creator tools, fewer ads
Premium $30 $300 4x Plus SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ benefits, Grok Bot
Super $100 $1,000 15x Plus Everything in Premium
Ultra $200 $2,000 50x Plus Everything in Premium

Step by step

1. Use Free for a week

Note when you hit limits and on what: chat, images, video or voice.

2. Check where your usage goes

On a paid plan, Settings, Usage shows a breakdown by product. xAI says video and long coding tasks use far more of the pool than chat.

3. Match the plan to the job

  • Occasional chat and a few images: Free or Plus.
  • Daily work, regular images or voice: Plus or Premium.
  • Heavy video, coding in Cursor or Grok Bot: Premium or higher.

4. Decide about X benefits

xAI says X benefits apply once you connect a personal X account. Plus adds a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads; Premium and above include full X Premium+ benefits.

5. If you already pay, think before switching

Existing SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue. Switching gives a prorated refund for the old plan, but xAI says the switch can’t be undone.

Estimate your needs:

Here's how I used Grok this week: [rough list, for example 30 chats, 10 images, 2 short videos].
Based on that, which questions should I ask myself before choosing between Free, Plus and Premium?

Compare against what you already pay:

I pay $[amount] a month for [X Premium / SuperGrok / Cursor]. List what I'd gain and lose
by staying vs switching, as a two-column table. I'll check prices on x.ai/pricing myself.

Example

You: use Grok on X a few times a day and make about five images a week.

A sensible choice: start on Free. If you hit the limit most days, try Plus for a month and watch Settings, Usage. Move up only if you keep running out.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Paying for things you won’t use. Higher tiers bundle Cursor and Grok Bot. If you don’t code or need an AI teammate, you’re paying for capacity you won’t touch.
  • Switching without checking Apple or Google billing. xAI says some app-store subscriptions must be canceled separately.
  • Forgetting yearly renewals. A yearly plan charges the whole year up front.

Good to know

Team plans exist on Premium, Super and Ultra at the same per-seat price; Plus isn’t offered for teams. Prices and tiers changed in October 2026 and may change again.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between SuperGrok and The X Subscription?

SuperGrok was xAI's own Grok subscription. The X Subscription, introduced on October 12, 2026, combines Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium in one plan. xAI says existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium plans keep working unless you change or cancel them.

Can I go back after switching?

No. xAI says a completed switch to The X Subscription is permanent and support can't undo it.

Is there a yearly discount?

Yes. xAI lists Plus at $80 a year, Premium at $300, Super at $1,000 and Ultra at $2,000, before any sales tax.
