How to Cancel Your Grok Subscription and Ask for a Refund

Cancel where you paid. On grok.com, go to Settings, then Billing (or Billing & invoices on your grok.com dashboard for The X Subscription). If you paid through Apple, cancel in your Apple subscriptions; through Google Play, cancel in Google Play; through X, cancel in X. Refunds follow the same rule.

The short version

Cancel in the same place you paid. Grok can be bought on grok.com, through Apple, through Google Play or through X, and each one handles its own cancellations and refunds. Find out which one charged you first; your bank statement or receipt email usually says.

Step by step

1. Find where you subscribed

Look at the charge on your card or the receipt email: xAI (or SpaceXSI, xAI’s current company name on its pages), Apple, Google or X.

2. Cancel a grok.com subscription (SuperGrok)

Sign in at grok.com and go to Settings, Billing, or open grok.com/?_s=billing. From there you can change plan, update payment or cancel. xAI says ad blockers and other browser extensions can stop the Manage Subscription button from opening; try a private window or another browser.

3. Cancel The X Subscription

If you’re on one of the new plans (Plus, Premium, Super or Ultra) billed on the web, go to Billing & invoices on your grok.com/dashboard, open the options on your current plan and follow the prompts. xAI says you can cancel at any time. If you subscribed on X, cancel it in X.

4. Cancel through Apple or Google

  • iPhone or iPad: cancel in your Apple subscriptions. Apple handles refunds.
  • Android: cancel in the Google Play Store. xAI handles refunds through its refund request form.

5. Ask for a refund if you need one

For web and Google Play purchases, xAI’s FAQ points to its refund request form (sign in with the account that paid). For X Premium, X processes refunds where the law requires them.

Prompts to copy

Write a short, clear refund request:

text
Write a short, polite refund request for my Grok subscription. Facts:
bought on [date] through [grok.com / Google Play], plan [name], charged [amount],
reason: [reason]. Include my account email placeholder [EMAIL]. Under 100 words.

Work out which charge is which:

text
Here are the charges on my statement that mention xAI, X, Apple or Google: [paste lines without card numbers].
Help me work out which subscription each one is likely for and where I'd cancel it.

Example

You see: a large yearly charge you don’t recognize.

What to check: xAI’s FAQ says large unexpected invoices are often a SuperGrok Heavy yearly subscription, not API usage. Check the purchase date and your subscription history, then contact support with the invoice number if it’s still unclear.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Deleting the app and assuming you’ve canceled. Removing the app doesn’t stop billing.
  • Canceling in the wrong place. Canceling on grok.com doesn’t cancel an Apple subscription.
  • Switching plans without reading the fine print. xAI says switching to The X Subscription is permanent.
  • Disputing a charge before checking. A chargeback can complicate your account; ask support first.

Good to know

Before you cancel, check whether a cheaper plan would do. Plans changed in October 2026, and existing SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue unless you change them. See choose a Grok plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund for SuperGrok?

It depends where you bought it. xAI's FAQ says web and Google Play refunds go through xAI's refund request form, and approved refunds usually reach your original payment method in 5 to 10 business days. Apple handles App Store refunds, and X handles refunds for X Premium.

I don't see my subscription in the app. Did I pay twice?

Probably not. xAI says a subscription is tied to the account you bought it with, so it can be missing if you're signed in another way (for example Google instead of Apple). Sign in with the same method everywhere, and contact support if you really see two charges.

If I switched to The X Subscription, does canceling bring back my old plan?

No. xAI says combining accounts is permanent, and canceling The X Subscription doesn't restore your previous SuperGrok, Cursor or X Premium plans.
