How to Use Copilot Vision to Show Copilot Your Screen or Camera

Start a voice chat in Copilot, then select the screen share arrow on a PC or the camera icon in the phone app. Talk through what you see, such as “Where is the setting to change this?” Select Stop sharing (or tap the camera icon again) when you’re done. Microsoft lists a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family or Premium subscription, or a work Copilot license, as requirements.

The short version

Copilot Vision lets Copilot see what you see: your screen on a computer, or your camera on a phone. You talk, it looks, and it answers out loud. It’s useful when the hard part is describing the problem.

Step by step

On a PC (Windows or web)

  1. Start a voice chat from the Copilot chat box, the Copilot key, or Windows key + C.
  2. Select the screen share arrow in the voice chat.
  3. Choose what to share and ask your question out loud.
  4. Select Stop sharing when you’re done. This stops screen sharing but not the voice chat.

On a phone

  1. Open the Microsoft Copilot app and start a voice chat.
  2. Tap the camera icon and allow camera access if asked.
  3. Point the camera at the thing you’re asking about and talk.
  4. Tap the camera icon again to stop.

The first time, Copilot may ask you to acknowledge a privacy notice.

What it’s good for

  • Finding your way in software: “Where do I turn on page numbers in this?”
  • Reading what’s in front of you: a label, a menu in another language, a confusing form.
  • Simple how-to help: “What do these washing symbols mean?”
  • Second opinions on the spot: “Does this outfit work for a job interview?”

Prompts to copy

Say these out loud during a vision session:

text
I'm trying to export this spreadsheet as a PDF. Walk me through it one step at a time.
text
What does this warning light on my dishwasher mean, and what should I check first?
text
Read this form with me. Which fields do I have to fill in, and what goes in "Reference number"?
text
Translate the menu I'm pointing at and tell me which dishes are vegetarian.

Example

You share: a photo editing app you’ve never used.

You ask: “How do I crop this to a square for Instagram?”

A good result: Copilot points you to the crop tool, tells you which aspect ratio to pick, and waits while you do it. You ask the next question as you go, like a friend looking over your shoulder.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sharing the wrong window. Close email, bank tabs and private messages before you share your whole screen.
  • Pointing the camera at other people without their OK.
  • Trusting it on safety questions. For gas, electrical or medical issues, call a professional.
  • Expecting it to remember. Microsoft says each vision conversation is independent.

Good to know

You need microphone access, plus camera access on a phone. Microsoft points to a supported regions and languages page because availability varies. If you don’t see the option, your plan or region may not include it yet.
