The short version

Everything you need is in two places: the … menu next to each chat, and Settings. Export before you delete, and read a chat before you share it.

Step by step

Share a chat

DeepSeek’s FAQ says chats can be shared as links or images.

  • Web: in the chat history, click … and choose Share, or click Share below an answer or in the top-right corner.
  • App: long-press an answer and choose Share, or tap Share below it.

If you can’t find Share, update the app.

Rename or pin a chat

Click … next to the chat (long-press in the app) and choose Rename or Pin. Pin the chats you keep coming back to, and give them names you’ll recognize.

Export all your data

On the web, go to Settings > Data > Export data. The export includes your account information and all chat history. DeepSeek says it can take a while, and the download link is valid for 7 days.

Delete a chat

Click … next to the chat (long-press in the app) and choose Delete. It can’t be undone.

Delete your account

Go to Settings > Account settings > Delete Account. DeepSeek’s FAQ says all chat history is permanently deleted and any unused developer balance is forfeited. Its privacy policy adds that you can’t reactivate a deleted account.

Prompts to copy

Before sharing, ask DeepSeek to help you spot what to remove:

text
I'm about to share this chat publicly. List every name, email, phone number, address,
company detail or number in our conversation that I might not want others to see.

Before deleting a long project chat, keep what matters:

text
Summarize this whole conversation as notes I can save: decisions made, final versions
of anything we wrote, and open questions. Use headings.

Example

Situation: you used DeepSeek to plan a product launch over a dozen chats and want to clean up.

What to do: export your data from Settings first. Ask for a summary of each chat you want to keep and save it in your own documents. Then delete the chats you no longer need. Share only the final plan, after checking it for client names.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sharing a chat that contains personal details. Anyone with the link can read it, and it may end up indexed if posted online.
  • Deleting before exporting. There’s no undo.
  • Deleting an account with API credit left. Request a refund first; DeepSeek’s FAQ says unused balances can be refunded.
  • Assuming deletion removes everything instantly. The privacy policy says some data may be kept where needed for legal or business reasons. Email privacy@deepseek.com for other deletion requests.

Good to know

Chats sync between the web and the app. If something looks missing, DeepSeek’s FAQ suggests refreshing the page on the web or pulling down to refresh the history in the app. It also mentions chat branches: the numbered arrows below a message switch between versions.
