Passerby · London proof of concept
How many shoppers pass Oxford Street?
Passerby on 805 of Transport for London’s JamCams: pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles, counted by direction on each new 10-second clip the camera posts.
Pick a camera on the map, find one by road or place, or try a video of your own.
Amber dots have live video, where everything passing is counted. Grey dots show a still image every few minutes.

How it differs from live video
Clips, not a stream
TfL doesn’t stream its cameras. Each one posts a 10-second clip every 4 to 8 minutes, so Passerby counts samples: a few clips an hour, from which it works out an hourly rate.
Small pictures
The clips are 352 × 288 pixels. Cars, buses and vans are found well; pedestrians on a wide junction are only a few pixels tall, so the zoomed-in cameras (such as Oxford Street at Selfridges) count them best.
Same counter
Detection, the counting lines, the pedestrian line and the CSV are the same as on the Caltrans version, and everything runs on your own device.
